Your Perfect Diamond!

Lab-Grown vs. Natural Diamonds

Lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds with the same chemical, physical, and optical properties as natural diamonds. The only difference is how they're formed. Natural diamonds develop beneath the Earth over billions of years, while lab-grown diamonds are created using advanced technology that replicates the same process. Both are certified, durable, and sparkle beautifully for a lifetime.

Are Your Diamonds Certified?

Yes. Every loose diamond or ring with a diamond of 1 carat or larger includes an independent grading report from either IGI or GIA. These certificates verify the diamond's cut, color, clarity, carat weight, and other important characteristics so you can purchase with complete confidence.

How Long Does Shipping Take?

Most loose diamonds and completed jewelry ship within approximately 10 business days. Every order is carefully inspected before shipping to ensure it meets our quality standards. You'll receive tracking information as soon as your order is on its way.

What Is Your Return Policy?

We want you to love your purchase. Loose diamonds may be returned within 21 days of delivery, provided they are returned in their original condition with the accompanying grading certificate. Custom rings and made-to-order jewelry are crafted specifically for you and are therefore final sale.

Why Are Your Prices Lower?

At Altura Diamonds, we believe exceptional diamonds shouldn't come with excessive markups. Rather than charging as much as the market will bear, we've intentionally built our business around fair pricing and long-term customer relationships. We want you to feel confident that you're receiving outstanding value from the very beginning, without needing to negotiate or wait for a sale.

Can I Build a Custom Ring?

Absolutely. Our Ring Design Studio makes it easy to pair your favorite setting with the perfect diamond to create a ring that's uniquely yours. If you don't see exactly what you're looking for, simply reach out. We can create completely custom rings from scratch or recreate an existing design with the modifications you have in mind.

Diamond Buying Guide

Become a Smarter Diamond Buyer

Choosing a diamond is about more than grading reports and technical terminology. Explore our educational guide to learn what truly matters, understand how diamonds are evaluated, and gain the confidence to make an informed decision.

Learning Topics

Topic Summary

Foundation

Learn what the grades really mean.

The Four Cs are useful, but they are not equal. This lesson explains how Cut, Color, Clarity, and Carat work together and why some grades matter more visually than others.

Cut has the greatest visual impact.
Carat measures weight, not size.
Many clarity differences are invisible.

Most Important

Sparkle begins with cut.

A diamond's sparkle is created by how it handles light. Cut influences brilliance, fire, scintillation, contrast, and the overall life of the stone.

Cut determines sparkle.
Bowties can appear in fancy shapes.
Videos reveal what reports cannot.

Smart Buying

The best diamond is the best balance.

Choosing well means understanding where your money creates visible beauty and where it may only improve a certificate.

Shape changes the entire personality.
Ratios affect face-up appearance.
Eye-clean clarity can offer value.

Verification

Certificates matter, but they are not the whole story.

A grading report helps verify what a diamond is. Visual evaluation helps reveal how beautiful it is.

Reports support comparison.
Laser inscriptions help verify identity.
Reports do not show personality.

Customer Commitment

The Four Cs define the diamond. Commitment defines the experience.

Our role is to help you compare options clearly, understand what matters, and feel confident before, during, and after your purchase.

Education before pressure.

Diamond Buying Guide

The Four Cs: The Foundation of Diamond Quality

The Four Cs help describe a diamond, but they do not always tell the full story of how beautiful it will look in real life.

What the Four Cs actually tell you

The Four Cs—Cut, Color, Clarity, and Carat Weight—are the international standards used to evaluate diamonds. Together, they help describe a diamond's quality, appearance, and value. While each characteristic plays an important role, they do not contribute equally to beauty. A well-balanced diamond is the result of understanding how these characteristics work together rather than simply chasing the highest grades.

Beyond the Certificate

The report is only the beginning.

Many buyers assume the highest grades automatically create the most beautiful diamond. In reality, the smartest purchase is often the one that balances beauty, performance, and value. We help customers understand which grades are worth paying for and which upgrades may not be visible in everyday wear.

Do all Four Cs matter equally?

No. All four characteristics matter, but Cut has the strongest influence on how lively and brilliant a diamond appears.

Is the highest grade always the best choice?

Not always. Some upgrades are difficult to see without magnification or side-by-side comparison, which means your budget may be better used elsewhere.

Where should I start?

Start with Cut. Once light performance is strong, you can balance color, clarity, and carat weight around your preferences and budget.

Light Performance

Why Cut Is the Most Important Characteristic

Color, Clarity, and Carat describe a diamond, but Cut determines how effectively it comes alive with light.

Why cut matters most

If there is one lesson every diamond buyer should understand, it is this: sparkle is created by Cut. A beautifully cut diamond captures light, reflects it internally, and returns it back to your eye. Poorly cut diamonds allow light to escape through the sides or bottom, reducing brilliance and creating a dull or lifeless appearance even when the grading report looks impressive.

Cut also influences optical characteristics such as bowties in ovals, pears, and marquise diamonds, as well as windowing in step cuts like emerald and Asscher diamonds.

Beyond the Certificate

We would prioritize Cut every time.

A D Color, Flawless diamond can still appear lifeless if it does not return light well. Cut is the foundation that allows every other quality to shine, which is why we pay close attention to how a diamond performs beyond the certificate.

Can a D Flawless diamond still look dull?

Yes. Exceptional color and clarity cannot compensate for poor light performance. If the cut does not return light effectively, the diamond may look flat or lifeless.

Are bowties always bad?

No. Bowties are common in elongated fancy shapes. The goal is not always to eliminate them completely, but to avoid one that appears overly dark, wide, or distracting.

Why do videos matter?

Videos show movement, contrast, sparkle, bowties, and windowing in a way a grading report cannot. They are especially useful for fancy shapes.

Value & Selection

How to Choose a Diamond You'll Love

The best diamond is not always the one with the highest grades. It is the one that delivers the strongest overall beauty for your style, preferences, and budget.

Choose the complete diamond, not just the grades

Every diamond shape has its own personality, strengths, and things to watch for. Ovals can offer elegant finger coverage but may show bowties. Emerald cuts can look refined and architectural but require careful evaluation for windowing and contrast. Radiants and cushions can vary widely in pattern, brightness, and face-up size.

Color and clarity should be evaluated through the lens of real-world appearance. A slightly warmer diamond may still look bright and beautiful, especially in yellow gold. A VS2 or even eye-clean SI diamond may appear identical to higher clarity grades in everyday wear.

Beyond the Certificate

Spend where you will see the difference.

We often encourage customers to prioritize visible beauty over paper perfection. A well-cut G VS2 can be a smarter and more beautiful choice than a higher-graded diamond with weaker light performance.

What does eye clean mean?

Eye clean means inclusions are not visible to the naked eye under normal viewing conditions.

Should I choose size or quality?

Start with Cut and overall performance, then balance carat weight, color, and clarity based on what matters most to you.

Do ratios matter?

Yes. Ratios influence whether a diamond looks elongated, balanced, wide, narrow, soft, or dramatic.

Reports & Verification

What a Diamond Certificate Can and Cannot Tell You

Independent grading reports are valuable tools, but they should be used alongside visual evaluation whenever possible.

How certificates help buyers compare diamonds

Organizations such as IGI and GIA evaluate diamonds using standardized grading criteria. A report can include important details such as carat weight, color, clarity, measurements, proportions, polish, symmetry, fluorescence, and sometimes a plotted clarity diagram.

Many certified diamonds also include a laser inscription that matches the report number, helping verify that the diamond corresponds to its grading document.

Beyond the Certificate

A certificate describes the diamond. It does not perform for it.

Two diamonds with similar reports can look very different in real life. A report is essential, but it cannot fully capture brightness, movement, contrast, bowties, windowing, or the overall feeling of the stone.

Are IGI and GIA diamonds real diamonds?

Yes. IGI and GIA are grading laboratories. Their reports evaluate diamonds, including lab-grown and natural diamonds depending on the stone submitted.

What is a laser inscription?

A laser inscription is a microscopic report number placed on the diamond's girdle to help verify the stone.

Can identical reports look different?

Yes. Light performance and visual character can vary even when two grading reports appear very similar.

The Altura Experience

Buying a Diamond Should Feel Clear, Not Intimidating

Whether you are selecting a loose diamond or creating a custom engagement ring, the process should feel transparent, personal, and supported.

Customer Commitment is part of the product

For loose diamonds, many retailers may have access to the same virtual inventory. The difference is how clearly the diamond is explained, how carefully it is evaluated, and how confidently you feel before purchasing. For custom rings, the experience becomes even more personal through design details, CAD approval, production, inspection, and delivery.

Beyond the Certificate

The Fifth C defines the experience.

The Four Cs define the diamond. Our Fifth C is Customer Commitment. That means honest guidance, transparent communication, education before pressure, and support throughout the full process.

Can you help me compare diamonds?

Yes. We can help explain differences in cut, proportions, light performance, color, clarity, and overall value.

Can I create a custom ring?

Yes. Custom designs can include CAD review and approval before manufacturing begins.

What makes Altura different?

Our focus is education, transparency, and thoughtful guidance so you can make a confident decision instead of feeling rushed or overwhelmed.
